Visible Mold

In some cases, you don’t just smell the mold, you see it too. If you have visible mold on anything in your home other than blue cheese, it’s a problem and a sure sign of water damage at some point. While the water may not still be there, it has created a breeding ground for mold, which can cause huge structural and health issues. While black mold is usually recognized as the worst (and most dangerous), mold in a home can be black, grey, orange, or brown, and any mold can cause respiratory issues over time.

Damage To Paint Or Drywall

Excessive moisture can cause visible damage, such as bulging drywall or peeling paint. If your drywall has started to bulge, warp, sag, or feel soft and spongey, it is a sign that it has suffered water damage. Likewise, if your paint of wallpaper are peeling, flaking, or bubbling, that is a sign that water has gotten under it. 

Staining

Finally, even after the moisture goes away, there is usually some sort of visible staining left behind. If you notice that stains seem to be growing, that is a sign of continuing water damage, and it needs a professional’s eye and experience.
